Acer Aspire 5100 Fan

I've become a huge fan of gentoo as of recently and i'm trying to get him to switch. At this acer aspire adapter replacement is manufactured by american power supplies. The laptop fans power light up for seconds initial acer aspire graphic screen then switch off. I tried to turn it on and it went to the white screen with the acer logo but after a minute it went to a black screen that said things like media.
